The Words

My thanks to Dana, "TexasMammie," for the words to It is Well With My Soul:

When peace like a river, attendeth my way;
  When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

It is well…with my soul… It is well, it is well, with my soul…

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
  Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

It is well…with my soul… It is well, it is well, with my soul…

He lives–oh, the bliss of this glorious thought;
My sin, not in part, but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Oh my soul.

It is well…with my soul… It is well, it is well, with my soul…

And, Lord, haste the day when our faith shall be sight
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trumpet shall sound, and the Lord shall descend;
Even so, it is well with my soul…

It is well…with my soul… It is well, it is well, with my soul…

  1. Dana is indeed a precious soul, and I do hope that she will visit me more often, but perhaps it is I that should extend more effort.  As for your kind comment and encouragement…never fear my friend, I’ve grown accustomed to this prophecy fulfilled.  Nothing will hinder me from loving them and praying for their vision to clear.  Yet even still, I am yet amazed at those who choose this brief life over eternal peace and fellowship.  The home in which you dwell may be just a resting place, but it is a home full of love and His grace.

  2. Hello Gail,

It seems my mind works ina different way than most people’s. Seeing simple things as something else is a gift I was blessed with. It is like coming up with 5 interpretations for one section of a story while only paying partial attention. You’re welcome.

4 people having surgery in the same day with three of them from the same family line and one friend – all turning out good is the Hand of God. I went up and saw my daughter today. She is a little weak but who wouldn’t be after a hysterectomy and having her bladder tacked up. She is in good spirits and looking forward to another day of rest.

Have a great weekend – I know Eastern Standard Time is +1 hour to me so you get a jump on the weekends.

    Peace, Love, & Blessings.

  3. Thanks to you and Dana for sharing the words.  Like I said before, my mum is always singing that song and I could just picture her in the kitchen now.  Your are a dear soul, Gail.  Have a blessed weekend!

  4. Hey Gail, this hymn always touches me!
By the way, i HAD TO LAUGH when I read the conversation you had with my hubby!! hahaha…I mean, he asked, "Are you Gail?" and you replied "Gail? Did you think you were talking to a different person??" hahahaha……..
Well…anyways, he enjoyed the short chat! haha…
hmm..if you can tell, my husband came from a Chinese school, so his spelling is a little off. *grin* oh well, we’re so multi lingual here..that things, language especially get all mixed up!
ok, will end here. We have a lovely day today. I took little Nel and JO to a native village where the children are very poor. We brought lots of clothings and toys..and the children just flocked to us…. it’s like, little Nel could not get the toys fast enough and the children were crowding around us. Of course, there was worship first, and Bible stories told by my brother. Well, the children were very happy. But I noticed many of them had no shoes. Perhaps we will go back again with shoes. Whatever it is, we were blessed as well, and esp little Nel who has learnt a lesson about giving to the needy.
ok, that’s a long entry for you,s ince you can’t read my blog. I will be writing about this trip when I get time. You take good care and have a beautiful weekend!

  7. Hello Gail,

It is that "ends an hour earlier" for the weekend that I enjoy even though equal time is allowed off:)

When my daughter starts getting "hot flashes," I will remind her "They are not hot flashes, they are power surges." We are at peace with how things went. God’s amazing presence provides that. Thank you for your prayers for my dd. She is a one of a kind and her children (my Grandsons) are so precious too – peanut fights and all.

    Peace, Love, & Blessings.

  8. Ciao G,
It was wonderful to hear from you, and I am happy to know that you are doing ok,
As for us, Sam is wonderful, ha ha ha, so much in love, cant you tell, ha ha ha. Anyway, he is doing fine, but the weather here in Italy is so very strange. Unreal actually, because even the Italian people will tell me that it is the strangest winter that they had ever seen. One day, it could be really quite cold, and the next day it is very warm. Last Thursday we had the temp. of 20 above. WOW, some hot that day, too hot for a winter coat for sure!! There are still pansys growning in the garden downstairs…so so so strange, because Italy usualy has a cold winter, mnid you not like what I am used to being from New Brunsiwck, but it is usually cold, and normally they do get some snow, not much, but little…but this year, we have none, with strange temps.
Well, it was fantastic to see you stop in for a visit…….looking forward to seeing you again.
    Have a great Sunday G.
    God Bless You

  9. Hi mom,

Things are fine and my hectic schedule has come to a brief pause for next few days before getting frentic again (most promisingly). It’s been so long since had chat with you or visited your blog.

How are things? I had good week end after long time. It’s kind of sleepy today at office.

Have great time. Give my regards to all.
    Take Care.
    Love & Prayers, Son.

  10. Mmmmm… so beautiful. It’s being sung in my head right now as it was all those poignant moments in my life.  We actually sing it in church often and it always makes me cry.  I feel like the words encourage me to feel that way. Like, I don’t always want it to be well with my soul until I start singing it, and then suddenly I know it just has to be, and it’s so much better that way.

Have a great rest of the weekend gail.

  11. To be at peace, when all is well with your soul…that’s what we should strive for. When God’s in charge, how can it not be well within your soul? What’s not to be at peace?
We sang that song at my last church. It was very traditional. We sang it alot. I think our piano player only knew about 8 songs.
    (I can’t spell the other word – pianist? piano-ist?).
I now go to a church that offers both types of services – contemporary and traditional. I go to the comtemporary service. And before the sermon, we go to class. I still call it Sunday School, but it’s referred to as Adult Bible Study.
I think I like contemporary music as much or more than traditional. I feel more like I’m worshipping than singing. Maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, glad I could get your singing memories going.

    xoxo

  13. Ignore one of my comments.
It’s the server’s fault, not mine.

Always pass the blame if it sounds good, right?

  14. I really have not been a very good housekeeper lately. I usually do much better keeping things clean when Bill isn’t around for some reason. When he was in Iraq, the house was spotless! Now it’s a mess. LOL

  15. Hello Gail,

Adam is covered. I copy/pasted your comment  into his site – lazy way to do it:)

I ran across a stuffed animal with a t-shirt on that said, "They’re not hot fllashes, they’re just power surges." It also plays "Will you still need me, Will you still feed me, When I’m 64." A song from the long ago 60’s. I got it for my wife because she was going from furiously fanning herself to freezing cold in 0.2 seconds. It was so funny, I just had to get it. Warped humour! HAHAHA!

    Peace & Blessings.

  16. very well written…
:o) smiles easy to give away they are free… :o) very contagious… :o) so pass one to anyone … :o) to people that you love… :o) and even to those you don’t… :o) in no time the whole world will be smiling :o)

  17. praise the Lord that He sent rain to us

we got a welcomed relief of rain a few days ago…
helps out our valiant firefighters fighting the bushfires
yeah, my fiancee came with me on the missions trip
    we had an awesome time!!!
it was wonderful to serve God together as a team… 🙂

  18. we both seem to have hymns on our mind 🙂

just wanted to share this verse from a hymn with you :-

‘No matter what you may do ‘
    the Lord said
‘I shall be faithful  and true ‘
    the Lord said
‘My love will strengthen you as you go along,
for you’re my travelling wandering race .
    You’re the people of God’

and let you know it is a joy to travel with you 🙂

    love and blessings

  19. Aye, pretty!

Alien Hunter put your comments on my site ~smiles~

"Right Click" your interent browser icon and open up "properties"  Then on the front of the box there should be a clear history.  Try that and perhaps you can get back on the site.  Sometimes prviliges get messed up because of IE cache.  I hope it works 🙂

    Love,
    Adam

  20. i love this hymn!!!!!
it is one of my all time favourites!!!
    what powerful words!
    what powerful truth!
It is well with my soul…. ahhhh….
    😀
    God bless!

  21. Hey Gail……..snowing heavily there? just wondering, coz many blogs are about heavy snowfall. Over here it is still heavy downpour almost daily, causing massive flooding down south. *sigh* good thing, I don’t live hear the coast. We are all ok, I"m getting use dto my schedule..though I’m beginning to have rather bad back aches. Must buy good shoes..coz I have to stand a lot when lecturing.
oh well, will sleep now, morning lecture tomorrow. God bless and take care!

  22. One of my favorite songs.  Mr. Spafford was an impressive Christian.  Proir to the loss of his daughters, he had lost much of his wealth in the Chicago fire.  He knew what loss was and more importantly, Who to turn to in times of trouble.
He died of malaria, in Israel, while serving the poor.

  23. Dear G,
Reepie, what a fabulous name!  I never read the Narnia’s Chronicles, so I wasn’t familiar with that character.  Thank you for sharing that.  I had so much fun learning about peoples different pets…
Your little one is absolutely adorable, you have managed to catch so many great expressions…the one in the furry hat is darling!!!
I have enjoyed your last two entries…this arena is quite fascinating, and I too am amazed at the journey and the people I have met through the stroke of a key…
"It is well" is a true testament of a man’s faith with his God. It can’t help but hurt just a little to know that such beautiful words, were borne out of such great sorrow.
Thank you for coming by, I hope you come by often and I will definately do the same, your new NC friend,Sheila

  24. Hi Gail,  Just one more interview on January 30th by phone with the director of the program.  Then hopefully I will hear good news shortly after that.  I will post on my blog as soon as I hear anything.  Have a great weekend and stay warm!

  25. When I see billowing clouds that look like they are peeling back in the sky I think of the words to this song… "the clouds be rolled back as a scroll…."  To think that this song came from the heart of this man who had lost his little girls – I don’t know if I could say that it is well with my soul.  But I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

    Have a great week!
    B
