Friday Feast and Then Some

Name some(thing)one you think is “the best.”

 My Isabella.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 highest), how stressed are you today?

What kind of cleanser do you use to wash your face?

Main Course
Tonight is a blue moon! What is something that you believe only happens “once in a blue moon.”

true love

When was the last time it rained where you live?

Last week (but only a tiny bit).

I find it very interesting that men are getting into grooming more.  Do we owe it to shows like "Growing Up Gotti" where the guys are tweezed and coifed impeccably?  Those boys have increased the value of the stock of Murray’s pomade.  The Boy regularly uses that sticky, yucky stuff to hold his hair up.  At least I know that no one can run their fingers through his hair!

Yesterday I had my eyebrows and upper lip threaded.  I defy any man to endure this procedure.  The brows didn’t bother me because I am used to tweezing.  The upper lip, though…Yowwwwwww!  I’m going to get me some Nair!

Yesterday I also signed up for Curves.  I am hoping that it will jump start my metabolism and get my butt out the door.  I am a homebody and it is very irksome to Himself.

Also, I went to the phone store.  Somehow, my ringer stopped working.  The cell phone would vibrate but not ring!  Even the representative was confused but it eventually got worked out.  I’m telling you that I was busier than I had been the week previous to this one!

I hope ya’ll have a great weekend.  Stay cool, jewel.  blessings, gail

  1. Hello g, men are totally getting into grooming more, I find it bizarre how some are starting to wax eyebrows. And the manicure for men, I find that strange, I guess just washing hands and clipping nails isn’t enough for some men? It’s all kind of strange to me. I hope you enjoy curves, I know several people who go and they really enjoy it. I hope you have a great weekend. -S-

  2. Hi G ~
I like that men are becoming more into their personal hygiene… who wants the big hairy ape-guy look anyway? And I think it’s interesting that they call it "threaded." Why can’t people just call it what it is? With a fancy name it makes it better?
GOOD FOR YOU ON THE CURVES. I can relate to your procrastination there 100 percent!
The Blue Moon was/is beautiful… and I no longer believe in true love. SAD BUT TRUE. 😦  I think it’s bs for someone like me at this point. I do not include others in that statement: NOT for those like you and your hubby or my mom and dad, or my son and daughter in law…or anyone who found true love early enough on and obviously have fount it. And it’s only true love that makes you endure someone forever that way despite everything life dishes up.
Changing subjects now: It is raining here again… There has been 90 percent rain this spring and 10 percent sunny thus far this year. SIGHS… melanoma or not I’m really white and feelin’ overweight and now no hope for true love. LMAO. wow… THAT sounds just so pitiful! It is not as bad as it sounded just then and to me it sounds so pitiful it’s funny.
It’s the weekend at least. Yup. I wonder what I should do? Have a mid life crisis maybe. Just for the record: Midlife sucks. Everything I’ve ever read about it is true.

  3. Ooops! I was hitting the space bar and my last comment published…
I was debating adding it as it sounds negative kinda…
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, MY FRIEND! Hugs, and take care,

  4. It may sound weird, but I love my Hubby’s permanently stained hands. He has worked so many jobs that included axle grease or some other blacky yucky stuff, that I see them as a symbol of all the work he does. His hands are big, rough and have callouses like you would not believe, but it all speaks to the fact that he’s always the first one to offer to change a tire, move your couch, fix your lawnmower or what have you.
If he’s lucky he remembers to comb his hair after he showers in the am. As the day goes by, I never see him look in a mirror unless he’s hurt his face somehow. If he’s not going to work (he has a work shirt), I usually give him suggesstions on what to wear.
I believe he’s a very attractive guy (and I’m not the only one), but he could not care one iota about how he looks. Other than he thinks he’s fat. When I cut his hair and trim his mustache/beard, I also (UGH) pluck his ear and nose hairs. I also have to trim his eyebrows. For some reason they grow very long.
I watched Growing Up Gotti the same way I watched Anna Nicole. Like watching a train wreck. I think the Gotti boys are going to wind up either dead or in prison. They need to live in the ‘real’ world WITHOUT Momma for a while. She could do with a few life lessons herself.
Concerning love at first sight…it took about 3 weeks for me to decide on Hubby, but he said that he knew I was the right one when we first met. So, yeah, I guess I do believe.
Plucking is the way for me. My eyebrows are not an issue (except when I have to dye them. They turn white!) but I have long eyelashes in the inside corners of my eyes that I have to pluck. OUCHY. If I don’t, everyone thinks I have eye boogers. I also have a few errant chin hairs that need to be caught.
When the ‘epilady’ first came out, I bought on. It actually pulls big chunks of hair out in a circular motion. My nephew was living with us at the time (I think he was 18 or 19, he’s 35 now) and he had me use it on his back every other day. I think I still have the finger holes in the doorframe!  When he left I gave it to him. I never could bring myself to use it.
I don’t know what he does now. Don’t want to.
Rain is a four letter word around here these days. We’ve had about 25" so far this year.
    Have a good weekend~

  5. It must be the flu then.  I am MISERABLE.  It is 90 degrees outside and I am on the couch under a blanket.  My body feels like it is being repeatedly hit by a stick.  And I can’t stop coughing.
    Dang it.
I love the threading by the way.  Can’t find anyone over here to do it 😦

  6. hey my dear AG,
i’m so glad to know you’ve joined Curves. i’m also a member of a gym now….n i feel good after workouts…also feel more fit n healthier. I recently got this book on what men wished their wives knew. One of it was, how much they wished their wives would look after their own health and looks. haha….. So, well, even if not for my husband, I feel better working out at the gym. The Latin dance classes are particularly fun! 🙂
As for threading…hmm…well, I don’t have much hair so no need for that. 😉 haha….but I’ve had a friend do embroidery on her eyebrow to giveit a nicer look! that one is Yowwww!!! haha…
okie doke…will write later. it is a busy day. Dad’s birthday today, grandma’s tomorrow, and it was Nel’s last week!
God bless n hope you’er feelin good…..hope that stress level drops below 50.
    love ya

  7. ouch …the threading sounds awful painful ,did you do it to punish yourself or what ???? so you joined the keep fit brigade ,maybe it is time I made more of an effort after reading your post & some of the comments ! I did start swimming again a few weeks back but do not always manage to get in the pool …one week  forgot my costume & this week it was half term & i changed my mind when I saw all the 10 year olds waiting  in the queue .lol so I went for a ‘pot of tea’ and read a magazine instead ..
I may have a go at the quiz you have posted now …a day for quizzes I just did the one from Dana’s space :-
Appetizer …has to be Fergus !
soup …5    himself just came home or it would have been lower :-)..praying for you right now as you score so high on the stress !!!!
    salad ….Olay
    main course ..finding ones soulmate
    dessert…..night before last  (I think ! )

I was scared to hit the threading link… It sounds far too painful!
I am blessed with very little body hair… and what I do have is blonde so I never have to do any plucking and only rarely do I need to shave my legs…
I also have to agree with texas… I like manly men, and they don’t coiff! LOL However you spell that!
WTG on Curves… I hope it helps you!

  9. Men and grooming…..I guess I haven’t written about my ex’s grooming on my blog.  He was the King of grooming.  He was having his eyebrows waxed before I was.  Once he turned 30, he started shaving his legs, tanning, coloring his hair, trimming the hair on his arms, chest (not that he had that much).  Oh did I mention he used Rogaine also?  Did I mention that he liked to wear vibrant colors and especially liked clothing from the International Male……no thank you to men who groom.  There is a line between a man and a woman.  I believe my ex crossed that line.  Anyway TMI!  Hope you are having a nice weekend!

  10. I think it is because women are requiring that men not be such hairy nasty pigs? ~chuckles~.  A woman has just as much power as a man today (for the sake of argument), so for a man to attract women he has had to make himself for appealing to women.  And men will do what is ever neccesary to get love, lust, etc. whatever they are seeking.
Trust me when I say men are still very lazy, we love jeans and a tshirt!  We hate shaving!  We do it for the game ~smiles~

  11. I hope your next week is a more relaxing one!  And less stressful!
    Threading does hurt!  Ouch!
    Take care,

  12. Ciao G,
Thanks for dropping in for a visit, it was wonderful to see you stop in.
Hope that you have a great Sunday Evening …
Have a good week as well.

  13. APPETIZER is my MOM.
    SOUP is 10–surgery tomorrow (major)
    SALAD–zest soap (does that count?)
MAIN COURSE–my daughter being respectful to me for more than 1/2 a day!
    DESSERT–Two weeks ago.

  14. I have been trying to groom for at least 10 years.  My first facial was 10 years ago in my manicure was 11 years ago.  I think good grooming is great for men as long as it’s done in moderation.  The lady who did my facial wanted to wax the hair in between my eyebrows, but she didn’t have any available, so I told her just to pluck them out.  I’m not that I go so far as waxing eyebrows to look like a woman, but I don’t want to be a unibrow either.
As far as here goes, I have way too much in all the wrong places.  I don’t know what it is about aging with men, but it seems like we get a little less hair on top and then it starts sprouting out in places we never anticipated.  Staying on top of this is a hard enough chore for an able-bodied individual, but I find it to be positively taxing.  However, one must look good for the ladies.  Right?Billy 🙂

This threading: is it something unique to the Atlantic Northeast? It sounds like something somebody mean made up, using approximately 30 cents’ worth of supplies, and then charges $30 for. I’ll stick to waxing. Occasionally.
Will you think badly of me if I tell you that Son #2 has his unibrow waxed, and that Son #3 LOVES a good manicure and pedicure? (minus the polish).
I’ve told them it’s no different from getting a haircut or a massage, and I believe it. And if they one day develop back hair? I’ll encourage them mightily to have it removed in some fashion. (Maybe that’s just me, though. I don’t even like hairy chests.)
Husband keeps his nose and ears trimmed, which pleases me. And he has beautiful feet. You know how I know this, and am not just being biased? Because twice now –TWICE! — when I’ve been with him, he’s been stopped by complete strangers who complimented him on his beautiful feet. Admittedly, both of them were podiatrists (isn’t that weird?), but still. THAT’S some pretty feet.
    I’m done now.
And I still want a stuffed cupcake.

  16. I think it is more the HDL to LDL ratio and the family history than anything.  My HDL was really low and my LDL was really high.  Bad me.  I am a mess, lol.  I haven’t tried the red yeast yet, but I am using flax seed (whole, not the oil).
And right now I am coughing my brains out, lol.  I think I am going to cough up a lung….

  17. I had never even heard of threading.  Sounds painful but so is anything that yanks all your little hairs out.
Isn’t it funny what we do to ‘maintain’ ourselves.
I hope you have a fun week!

  18. Ok G,  I love you, you know that, even when I miss phone call (like 2nite) sorry!
But THREADING?  What on earth is that?
