Friday Feast

Fill in the blank:  The best thing about where I live is:  ___________________

Well, I can walk to church and, if I had to, could walk to nearly any place I want to in town.  We are so close to things including a big city and mountains and an ocean.  Hard to beat but, it can also work against you.  We are pretty crowded in my neck of the woods.

Create a new name for a deodorant (like “Flower Fresh” or “Shower Scent”).

How about "Ahhh….That’s Better!"

What was the last piece of software you installed onto your computer?

Verizon Security Suite

If you were to receive a superlative award today beginning with the words ”Most likely to…”, what would the rest of the phrase say?

…melt into a gelatinous mass as soon as I sit down for the night (it has been one of those weeks!).

What two colors do you like to wear together?

Ideally, I really like aqua or teal and lavender together.  Also, some oranges with red.  There are so many combinations and, being a winter (don’t tell me you have never been color analyzed!), I tend to be able to wear jewel tones.

Now, wasn’t that fun?  I thank Amy for always having something for me to steal on Thursdays and Fridays!

My father-in-law and mother-in-law went away for a couple of days and he is now in the hospital.  Himself had to drive the two plus hours to be with them.  Sal, my f-i-l is 92 years old and has chronic congestive heart failure (his heart just won’t pump well enough to keep the fluids from settling in around it).  Truth be told, I don’t know how to ask you all to pray because he has lived such a long life.  However, after surviving three cancers, open heart surgery and many other ills, he keeps bouncing back!  One day, though, that won’t be the case.  We all have numbered days.

I don’t think having numbered days really hits most people who aren’t elderly.  We constantly put things off that could improve the days we have left.  Doctor’s appointments which could explain that mysterious pain we have had for a year, finally throwing away our clutter, visiting that neighbor we’ve been meaning to drop in on who seems to need some company.

A couple of years ago I thought often of a high school friend.  Some time during college, we lost touch with each other just because our lives took different paths.  Finally, after about a year of thinking about her, I googled her name to try to hook up.   And found her obituary.  I was able to contact her mom and was happy for that but still, had I looked her up sooner, I might have been able to be a part of her life that last year or so.  I cried for days. (I miss you, Melanie.)

Is there something you have been putting off that could possibly make your life more positive?  For myself, it is the dreaded colonoscopy and mammogram (yes, mother, I know).  Also, making a life plan, where I want to be in ten years, Lord willing.

Here’s hoping you all have a great weekend and happy Father’s Day to the guys who visit – whether you are a dad or have/had one!  Blessings, g

  1. I always like to hear little tidbits about the people I read.
I think it would be OK to pray for peace for Sal and the family; to pray for God’s healing hand on their hearts…something along those lines.
I’m sorry that you missed getting back with your friend. Life’s like that.
I have a friend that I met when I was 13 and was the new kid at school. We became good friends and hung out together a lot, even though we are very different people. But when we moved out of NM, I lost touch with her.
When I got the information concerning my 25th h.s. reunion, I contacted them and got her address. At that time, she lived in Florida…but NOW she lives about 30 miles away from me! So we got to visit a few weeks ago in my little town.
I’ll have to do your ‘menu’ on my space soon.

  2. Noticed your new pictures G! How;s the new class goin? and how does driving the new car feel? haha.. 🙂
I think it’s lovely you live so close by the mountains and the ocean! That’s cool. As for your latter part of the post…I’ve been trying to practice that now. That if I feel like I have to do something, esp if the Lord prompts me, I try to do it at once…once I’ve overcomed any feelings of apprehension, if that doesn’t take months! haha….
Well, hope your weekend is beautiful G! God bless and hope you get to relax…and melt, you know, totally relax. 🙂

  3. Living for today is what I try to remind myself to do all the time, but I am really guilty of procrastinating.  I can’t tell you how often this week alone I turned on Microsoft Outlook only to look at my to-do list and simply shrugged my shoulders at how little I have actually got accomplished.
I had this feeling about my high school girlfriend and thankfully I was able to track her down in Texas.  After bugging her with a few e-mails she finally sent a response and I was glad to hear she is married and has one child.  I guess I did something that really upset her, but I can’t remember.  Women always have much better memories than men when it comes to relationships.
I had so many high school friends and I haven’t seen but one of them since I graduated.  I put off going to my 20th high school reunion with the knowledge that none of my friends were attending and I thought what the hell, I can always go to the 25th, but there won’t be one.  I went to Biloxi high school and they seem to be rightfully concentrating on other things.  Believe it or not, I found a friend who was in the class right after me and she literally lived three houses down from me in my previous neighborhood.  It was the Hurricane Katrina relief drive and some of the press coverage which got us together.  The ironic thing is we had known each other for 10 years, but it never came up in conversation.  She even knew my high school girlfriend.  I am thinking about contacting her and seeing if they are going to have a 25th reunion next year and maybe I can try to tack the two or three years together.
Man, looking back on this I see how I have rambled on.BTW, just started using Google Reader and it is much easier to keep up with blogs.  I have yours loaded and that is how I saw this post.I better shut up for now.Billy
