Heavy Sigh

Well, it was good while it lasted.  The Boy wants to be a "normal teenager" so he is no longer sober.  Let’s see how long it takes for his attitude to start stinking.  Oh, it already has – a bit.  Missed two days of school in a row.  We will not excuse the absence and he will get in-school suspension – at the least – when he returns.  He says he is an adult now that he is eighteen.  You do the crime – you do the time.

My BFF’s mom died this past week.  When I walked into the funeral home, she started crying.  When I asked how she was doing, she said okay until you walked in.  When we hugged, she wouldn’t let go for a while.  Best friends are the ones you can cry with and hold on to.  I have been so blessed.

Something I have been meaning to share with you is that I am now a teaching assistant for an English As a Second Language class (ESL) which is sponsored by my church.  Where I live there are many, many different ethnic people groups.  I can’t begin to tell you how much I am getting out of being involved.  The students are so appreciative that it blows me away.  America at its best.

Phrases like "blows me away" make no sense to them.  I have to be careful not to speak in "idioms" when having conversations or they might think I am insane!

Well, I finally had to put on the heat today.Disappointed Even I  had to put a long-sleeved shirt and a sweater on and I am usually too warm.  Oh, well.  It is supposed to warm up a bit as the week unfolds.  The autumn leaves are stunning and it reminds me of why it is so nice to live in the Great Atlantic Northeast.

If I continue to type it will just be aimless, possibly incoherent ramblings so I will cut it short here with a new meme I have discovered called Manic Monday.

Which month of the year do you think best describes your personality?
I would have to say May because, even though I am basically a warm person I can be cold deep down where you can’t see it just like a May day can be warm but the earth hasn’t warmed up yet.

If you could have had the starring role in an existing movie, which movie would you pick?

Not one!  I don’t have the acting bug.

Are you attracted to people whose personalities are very similar to your personaltiy or very different?
Both.  At first, someone whose personality is like mine annoys me because I am looking in a mirror at all of my faults.  Eventually, though, I warm up to them (see previous entry).  Different – well, depends on whether or not they are genuine and whether or not we can have an enriching relationship.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, g

  1. Good job!  I know it seems harsh and creates chaos, but it is so important for him to be accountable for his own actions.  I am glad you are not enabling him!  The worst thing a loved one can do is call in to work, school, etc. and make an excuse which enable the person to continue their detrimental behavior ~sighs~.

Death gets easier the older you get ~smiles~.  It still leaves a hole in you, but you aren’t tramatized like a teenager or young adult.  I am sorry for their loss, but she is in God’s domain now and be well taken care of I am sure ~smiles~.  I hope their healing is at God’s speed!

That is so awesome! I can’t even tell you (becaue you know lol) how much service can get us our of ourselves and our problems and help us help those who actually want the help!  I think it is funny my son is AP/honors but constantly complains and whines about school.  I am thinking about sending him to Angola, Africa.  That is a state that is hungry for education and God, because they go hand in hand there for the most part.  They have 10,000 pastors there now and maybe 1% of them have had any Bible training/study ~chuckles~.  The point being we are selfish, bloated people as a whole in America, we whine and cry while tens of millions would be happy to have the chance and opportunities our youth take for granted ~sighs~.  I try to convey that to my boy, but you know how teenage kids listen! ~laughs~

Which month of the year do you think best describes your personality? March: Because it is full of new life sprouting up, the warmth of the sun rising feeling great upon the skin, beautiful flowers and bulbous Tulips burst out of the ground spreading beauty and color across a once darkened white death of winter 🙂

If you could have had the starring role in an existing movie, which movie would you pick? The Matrix

Are you attracted to people whose personalities are very similar to your personaltiy or very different? Hell No, I like to be the center of attention!  They would be stealing my spotlight ~grins~.

God bless ya babe!  I will be sure to have a good week!

    Love,
    Adam

  2. Hmm I misread that last question, so I must retract my silly answer and try again ~chuckles~.
Are you attracted to people whose personalities are very similar to your personaltiy or very different?

I actually tend to judge/view people on an individual basis and although we are alike in varying ways we are also different, so in essense on the outside we all seem the same but on the inside not a single of one of us is.  We are like snowflakes.

I do tend to like spiritual and intellectual types, but if you are a female and like to have a good time I don’t care how dumb you are as long as you are humorous 🙂

  3. Oh no!  About the Boy….sorry to hear that.  I hope he doesn’t regress too badly.  My prayers and thoughts are with you.  And appreciative students?!  Isn’t that an oxymoron?!  You lucky duck!  Well I am glad I took Friday off….I really needed to regroup.  I feel better now.  Hope the rest of your week goes well.

  4. So sorry about your son.  At that age it is hard to stand up to your peers and be ‘different’.  Good work on that ESL job.  You obviously have patience.  I struggle to even understand that word.
I find it very hard to believe that you are cold on the inside.

  5. Rehab is such a difficult thing.  And for the person going through it, it must be the most difficult.  Although I think we on the outside think we have it the worst sometimes because we have to watch them go through the stages.

Many many many hugs and prayers and thoughts and understanding to you Gail!!

  6. I am truly sorry to hear that about The Boy even though signs seemed to be pointing to things going that way…

And, ah, the shock of adulthood.  All those years of anticipating the "freedom" of casting off Mama & Daddy’s yoke lead only to the shock of how real and how demanding adult life can be under normal circumstances.  Unfortunately, he’s compounded the injury and complicated the process even more by participating in illegal activity (underage drinking).  When I was a teenager we never thought of this.  Not one time did it ever occur to us that what we were doing was illegal.  Now I’m starting to see tv commercials addressing the issue of things we never even thought about.

You always find the most interesting questions – and your answers are always far more interesting.

I love you, g.  Hang in there!

    Love,
    Carol 🙂

  7. Sorry to hear about the boy.  That really sucks!  Man , these kids are tough to raise.  Ughh…I pray it all turns out for the best one day…sooner instead of later.  And don’t you worry about the comments you leave on my place…if you have something to share, please do.

  8. hey Gail, as a new visitor here I went back thru your posts to August 19th (the bottom of the page) and I gotta say you certainly have your hands full!  Good luck with The Boy and his ongoing challenges.

  9. G. You have a unique ability to view things from their proper perspective.  You are now in the position where you can do nothing more than be there for him in a way that you feel comfortable.  He is indeed an "adult" and sometimes it takes more than 1 failure to become the "success" one is seeking.
hmmm, the month, that is a hard one, because it would depend upon where I live.  In New England it would definately be September with the Indian summer days (cool crisp mornings and evenings with the filling of warm afternoons).  Autumn has always been my favorite time of year and now it has become my favorite time of life. So in New England it would definately be September…in the South, shoot anything goes- we are at the end of October and the trees haven’t turned yet, geeeeez!but yes our heater went on last night for the very first time!
Keep up the great work with the teaching, it is a win win situation for everyone involved, and you are so generous to be there for your students! Have a great Tuesday! hugs, S.

  10. Awww, Gail.  I am so sorry about your son.  It’s so hard to see people that we love, particularly our children, do self destructive things. And I’m sure it is hard for him too, of course he wants to be a normal teenager, who didn’t at that age.  Hopefully he will mature faster as result of what he’s been through though and begin to see the light.  I will certainly say a prayer for him and for you.

Oh, and I would never believe you are cold deep down!

    Take care,
    Amy

  11. hey G… i think facing a child between teens n early mid 20’s is tough. they want the independence but they lack the maturity….
i suppose…here’s where you let them swim…. n rescue only when they’re near drowning. Otehrwise…they have to face other consequences themselves. I believe with your consistent prayers….(I know with some parents.sometimes that means years)…. your boy will turn around. Keep trusting… god bless

  12. Hi Mom,

I am doing good… yeah, I read your e-mail days back about your Boy. Well, I can’t say anything coz we both have different cultural back ground and the treatment our parents give to their kids may not be suitable for your country. Anyway, you have my prayers to strenghten you. God be with you.

Well, after thinking so long about blogging, finally I decided to write blog and posted the blog, but was not able to continue after as I’ve got into my lazy syndrome.

I’ve stopped writing for that magazine for a while coz my English Grammar is really bad (well, I am improving though). Instead, I am maintaining my own blog and imroving my written english.

I gotta give all credits to the word processors for damaging my grammar coz I’ve won 4 prizes on English Writing during my college days while I was writing on paper and no relying on Dictionary feature that comes with Word Processors.

Anyway, I’d be writing a mail to you too tonight as I was planning about it since it’s been weeks since we had any sorts of communication and I miss my mom 😦 g.

How are J & J? How is my sweet niece Bella? Give my regards to granny and your husband too 🙂

It’s wonderful to know about your English teaching class.

Have wonderful day, God bless you.
    Love & Prayers, Son Rhonald.

  13. Hi Gail.  I’m so sorry to hear of your sons relapse.  Why do kids think this is normal activity?  I pray that his attitude does not get like it was before.

I work with a hispanic lady and she has alot of hispanic clients so I’ve been picking up some of the language.  I took Spanish in school but it is nothing like this. I’m thinking about seriously tring to become fluent.

Oh and I still haven’t used the heat yet… I’m thinking this week I may have to..

    God Bless

  14. I think that my "cold" spots deep down are defense mechanisms.  Sometimes I have to harden myself to be able to handle a situation.  Thanks.  g

  15. I’m so sorry, G; I understand the heartbreak & frustration- just when we they "get" it? Will continue to hold you all up in prayer.

  16. Oh, my. I’m so sorry Gail.. I know you’ll keep him covered in prayer, and let him learn. I’ll keep you both lifted up.
    hugs,
    Jean

  17.
    Hey G…

    Everyone is saying sorry…

I’m going to say that your son get’s his eyes and ears of understanding opened very quickly.
At the same time we loosen angels of protection around him with our faith in God.

    Peace be with you, Greg

  18. hi G, I decided to upload Jo’s voice again. If you have time (only if you have time) check it out. 🙂
In the mean time, how’s the ESL class going? you are right about not simply using idioms. When I first came back, there was this funny incident with my dad. He’d ask me "what would you like for dinner?" and I’d answer "I don’t care…." (meaning anything will do dad.)
and through out the week he’d ask for some opinions and I’d answer with "I don’t care.."
well, in ILlinois everyone used that phrase to mean I don’t mind.

Well, a month passed and my dad blew it. He spoke angrily one morn and said "You’ve been EXTREMELY rude since coming back! What do you mean by "I don’t care!!!" That is very rude and you’d better get yourself right!

I had to explain it to him after that. He laughs at it till now.
The other incident is when I said to Ted in our first year of marriage"See you later Alligator." He went to work and came back fuming mad, got into the house and was quiet as stone. When I asked why, he said madly "You were rude this morning, you called me an alligator!!!!"

hahahahahaha……. well, in M’sian, when you call someone a crocodile or alligator it means you might be a flirt. hehe…

  19. Hi Gail,
Well sorry to hear about your son. you have your hands full and can bet its not easy and everyday is a challenge.
God knows what going on and I will keep all in prayer.
Glad you were there at the funeral for your friend , thats what friendship is all about.
    Have a blessed weekend.
    Hugs Lisa
